About Ginger Kathrens

Ginger is an Emmy award-winning producer/director with experience in feature films and TV documentaries, commercials and national public service announcements. Her documentary film making trips have taken her to Africa, Asia, Europe, Central America and South America and all over the U.S. She is the President of Taurus Productions, Inc.

In addition to her natural history films Ginger has produced many short documentaries including "Friends for Life" for the Morris Animal Foundation hosted by Betty White. She worked with the U.S. Olympic Committee creating public service campaigns and programs including their official film, "The Struggle and The Triumph" hosted by John Habor and Donna Devarona. Another sports program, "The Ultimate Challenge", a ½ hour television sports documentary about the running of the grueling Pikes Peak Marathon, was hosted by 2 time Olympic marathon gold medialist, Bob Mathias.
She has authored several feature screen plays including "Red Dawn and Running Deer" now in re-write. Her feature script "The Race" was a winner in the Original Screenplay category at the Houston Film Festival and another script, "Prey for Freedom"--was optioned by Disney Productions in the 1970's.

Ginger has designed the political media and produced the television campaigns for candidates and political issues throughout the country. "Steady Under Fire", a biographical film about United States Senator Hank Brown of Colorado was the winner of a Special Achievement in Cinematography in the Cindy Awards of Los Angeles.

Short films and commercials for lotteries in various states were produced under her direction including the comedy short "Changing Fortunes" for the Michigan Lottery. Other short documentaries included productions for colleges, hospitals, and non-profit organizations.

Ginger grew up on a farm outside Bowling Green, Ohio where she helped her family raise and show registered Hereford cattle. She has ridden since she was a small child and helped her father train her two year old palomino quarterhorse as a teenager. She attended Bowling Green High and is an honor graduate of Bowling Green State University. She has a masters degree from Florida State University in Mass Communicationsand is listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was chosen one of the "Outstanding Young Women of America", as well as one of the outstanding "Business Leaders of Colorado". In September of 2001 she was named an outstanding graduate of the Bowling Green School System.
Much of her time is spent training and riding her two Spanish Mustangs, Flint and Sky, and her Arrowhead mustang, Trace, on the trails in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness of Southern Colorado. She completed her first endurance ride on Flint in August of 2001. Ginger continues to train and show her Irish Terrier obedience dog, Ty, who is working to earn his Utility Degree.

"Working in natural history filmmaking is a dream come true for me," Ginger states. "I actually get paid to go to the most beautiful places on earth and film these wonderful animals. What a privilege."

In 1998 she co-founded the Wild Horse and Burro Freedom Alliance, a coalition of animal welfare groups committed to the preservation of wild horses and burros on our public lands. The Alliance organizations represent the interests of over 8 million Americans. The award winning Alliance website can be accessed at www.savewildhorses.org.
